May 6 - Finally! The boat is in the water. Every year I underestimate the amount of work I need to do to get the boat ready for launch, but if you don't do all these projects before you put it in, they tend to get put on hold indefinitely. There is still a lot of cleaning and tidying up to do inside before my semi annual DNR inspection on Thursday. A new twist this year is the Coast Guard is going to conduct a simultanious inspection for separate issues related to federal rules. Although this is a slight inconvenience, I don't mind because I don't want to be on the water on a boat that is not 100% safe and sound any more than you do and Michigan charter boats have the best safety record of any state in large part because of these inspections.
