Monday, February, 06, 2012 January 28 - I received some good news in the mail the other day; the Coast Guard finally issued my new Captain's license. I started the renewal process early last November and it took until now to get through all the delays. The biggest obstacle now days is the medical department has been turned over to a private enterprize and I think they are way into overkill. Don't get me wrong, I believe it is a good idea to have a healthy Captain; after all, you are literally putting your life in his hands when you take a trip. However, some of the information I had to provide them was on the trivial side and involved a lot of time and expense in Doctor's visits and gathering paperwork. Oh well, I am good for another five years now and this is probably the last time I will renew my license because that puts me at 70 years old when it expires. I am thinking I will be sitting around in a rocking chair wearing a wool sweater and covered with a blanket trying to find my false teeth by that time anyway.
